To moonlight or not to moonlight

Today while I was literally scrubbing the bathroom floors at the McDonalds where I now work, I got a phone call from a number I have never seen before.  Not wanting to break any rules on my first day on the job, I let it ring and go straight to voicemail.  After work I checked the message and it was a phone call from Meijer saying they're doing interviews for part time afternoon positions.

As much as I'd like the extra income, I find myself in a bind.  Right now McDonalds is only giving me 20 hours a week which is half of what I'd like to be seeing.  Today was also my first day so once they see what I'm capable of, I'm sure I'll be getting more hours.  If I was to get a second job, I can't even be sure McDonalds would give me a full schedule only working mornings.  Plus my girlfriend isn't quite keen on the idea of not being able to see me as much.  I sympathize with her too because I'm driving back down to Florida for school in two months and I want to spend as much time with her as I possibly can.

And it's also entirely possible the extra cash from the Meijer job wouldn't even off-set my reduced availability at McDonalds and the gas I'd be burning to drive 15 miles through a construction zone during evening rush hour.  I could REALLY use that extra money though, but is it worth time at home with my family and my girlfriend whom I barely get to see as it is?

    Yeah man take the extra job, or start going to college. You gotta get ahead some how. Your GF can see you, plus you'll have some more money to do something nice for her.

    I read somewhere that half of the new jobs created last month were at McDonalds. I guess the "recovery" isn't going as planned.

    I would NEVER work at McDonalds : / not here in Norway, while under the age of 18 anyways...
    Pay is CRAP :s I can get more money out of picking up empty soda bottles...

    I suggest going to an interview and seeing where it goes. Worst case you tell the company you cannot take the job and they hire someone else. There is also a possibility you will get more than 20 hours and do a job you actually enjoy. GO FOR IT!

    I have a friend who studies with me from 9 to 1. As soon as we finish he skip lunch to work out or study, at 3 he goes to work and return to his home at 10pm. He do his homework and sleep at 3am. Same shit everyday, he wants to get marry with his girl and he is working to pay the wedding. I hope this example open your eyes.

    Take it if your sure your body can handle the pressure of 2 jobs. You don't want to be too tired for both jobs.

    Unless you need the money for food or shelter, i'd say spend the time with your family and girl, it's worth more then money imo.

    Oi, places like mcdonalds give such jack shit schedules. My one friends place O' work had 4 different schedules for the same week, completely giving different hours. Gotta hate it.
